Dodgers News: Shohei Ohtani’s 50/50 HR Ball Sells for Insane Record Amount

We finally have a resale price for Shohei Ohtani’s 50th home run ball of the season. But, this is not just any ball. This home run ball made Ohtani the first and only baseball player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season. Ohtani reached the feat on Sept. 19 in a home game against the Miami Marlins, just before the Dodgers’ journey to the World Series.

Goldin Auctions sold the history-making ball last week for $4,392,000 – the highest sale price for any game-used ball in any sport.

Although Ohtani is currently the highest-paid MLB player, the ball still sold for more than his annual salary of $2 million.

Initially, the Dodgers organization offered the lucky fan who caught the ball $300,000 in exchange for the ball. However, the fan knew he had a once-in-a-generation piece of history on his hands that he could sell for much more. Considering that the bidding for the collectible started at $500,000, the fan made the right call to turn down the Dodgers’ offer.

Ohtani’s collectibles have a history of selling for lucrative prices. Last month, Goldin Auctions also sold Ohtani’s 40/40 ball for $250,320. The demand for Ohtani’s memorabilia is so high that he was the only Dodgers player to have two bobblehead nights in the regular season, attracting a long line of fans hours before both games.

Ohtani’s popularity has skyrocketed in his first season with the Dodgers, breaking records and making history on and off the field.
