Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Excited to Learn More About Yoshinobu Yamamoto's Training Routine
Tyler Glasnow is headed into his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and it appears the right-handed pitcher is excited to learn from some of his new teammates.
While appearing as a guest on the JM Baseball podcast, Glasnow discussed beginning his new journey playing for the Dodgers and the excitement of playing with his new teammates — including free agent signee Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
“I’m excited to go meet him and meet like the guru guy he has,” Glasnow said. “The fact that he’s young coming from Japan, super fresh. The whole philosophy, how different it is. He’s not a big weight room guy, he does a lot of flexibility. And I’m kind of not as much anymore weight room guy, but big into flexibility. And I’m like, ‘What can I take away from you and your guru man?’”

As Glasnow mentioned, Yamamoto’s training route is quite different from the normal professional athlete who focuses on spending hours in the weight room. He focuses much more on improving his flexibility.
Yamamoto’s training routine revolves around him doing yoga, and training with wooden blocks, tiny soccer balls, and mini javelins. The Dodgers are expected to hire his “guru,” Osamu Yada (also known as “Yada Sensei”), directly to their player performance staff.
Over the course of his career, Glasnow has shown that he is a Cy Young-caliber pitcher. Unfortunately, staying healthy and off the injured list has been an issue for him.
Aside from having Tommy John surgery in 2021, Glasnow has only pitched more than 20 games in a season twice in his career. Glasnow made 21 starts last season, losing time to an oblique injury.
As Glasnow is gets older, the likelihood of injuries will inevitably rise. However, Glasnow could spend more time on the mound than the injured list during the latter stages of his career. Focusing on being more flexible has been proven as a way for athletes to stay healthier.
