Dodgers President Says It ‘Wasn’t a Goal’ To Make Dave Roberts Highest-Paid Manager
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been shelling out money for top talent this offseason.
This most recent move shows that the kind of talent the team will pay for doesn’t just stop on the diamond. Manager Dave Roberts is now the highest-paid manager in MLB history in terms of average annual value.

Aside from the obvious moves this offseason like bringing in Cy Young award winners and international phenoms, a question nagging at Dodgers fans was if/when Roberts would get his contract extension.
The skipper wasn’t just given his extension, but the historic number clearly makes the organization’s feelings about him known, whether the record-breaking contract was intentional or not.
Dodgers president Stan Kasten recently spoke to Dodger Nation’s Doug McKain and claimed that, although the money certainly suits the manager’s resume, it was never a goal to make him baseball’s richest skipper.
“Make him the highest paid manager? That was kind of a fun byproduct. Wasn’t a goal of ours, we don’t set goals like that,” Kasten told McKain. “I don’t know that it was Dave’s goal either but we are so incredibly fortunate to have Dave here. And if this works out as the internet is saying, that would be great. We’ll have more to talk about if that happens.”
As fun as the byproduct is, every penny has been earned and then some.
Since taking over in 2016, Roberts has four National League pennants, a Manager of the Year award, and two World Series rings.
With a completely retooled roster, fans will eagerly wait to see what else Roberts will do by 2029, when his contract is up.
Last season was won by so many factors, but constant injuries to the pitching staff forced Roberts to put on a managing master class, especially during October. If there was a stretch of the season that showed managerial brilliance, it was when the lights shined brightest.
Roberts will be going into his tenth season in L.A. preparing to do something the baseball world hasn’t seen in a quarter-century, and continue to further cement his legacy.
