Dodgers Release Statement Regarding Shohei Ohtani, Ippei Mizuhara Situation

The Los Angeles Dodgers have released a statement in regards to the situation between Shohei Ohtani and his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.

The team confirmed they have terminated Mizuhara’s contract, but didn’t have any other comment. Here’s the full statement:

“The Dodgers are aware of media reports and are gathering information. The team can confirm that interpreter Ippei Mizuhara has been terminated. The team has no further comment at this time.”

Mizuhara was accused of “massive theft” by Ohtani’s representatives, in relation to using Ohtani’s money to pay off gambling debt.

ESPN reported Mizuhara lost more than $4.5 million in gambling, and used Ohtani’s money to pay his bookmaker.

This is an ongoing story that won’t have a resolution anytime soon, but the Dodgers have parted ways with Mizuhara.

It’s unclear what that means for Ohtani’s interpretation, but it’s likely Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s interpreter will work double duty until the Dodgers get Ohtani his own, if he so chooses.

The Dodgers are currently in Korea as they play the second and final game of the Seoul Series before flying back to Los Angeles.
