Dodgers Remain Interested in Versatile Left-Handed Hitter From Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers could look to add St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbar to their roster this offseason, per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The Dodgers need an outfielder by Opening Day, and the Cardinals have already shown their willingness to unload some players this offseason, having sent All-Star starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox.

“As reported previously by The Athletic, the Seattle Mariners are a favorite for Donovan and the Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams interested in Nootbaar,” Rosenthal wrote.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya and Katie Woo previously reported the Dodgers could look to solve their problems in the outfield through trades, and listed Nootbar as a potential candidate.

“That list could also include Lars Nootbaar, who has a career OPS+ of 109, has played all three outfield spots and hits left-handed,” Ardaya and Woo wrote. “The 28-year-old will be coming off of double heel surgery that he underwent at the end of last season. His Opening Day timeline is in jeopardy, but even if Nootbaar is not ready at the start of the season, he should not miss more than a few weeks.”

The five-year MLB veteran has played across the outfield in his career, and would serve as a valuable piece for the Dodgers next season if he were to come to LA. He had a down year in 2025 after posting four consecutive seasons with an OPS north of .700, and still managed double-digit homers and a career-high 48 RBIs.

Nootbaar also spent time with Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Team Japan in 2023.

The 28-year-old is a solid budget option for the Dodgers if they’re to fill the hole in their outfield, and could be available at a reasonable price for the Dodgers due to his lacking offensive production in 2025. His lacking glove could pose a problem for the Dodgers, but if they find themselves desperate, they could very well pursue Nootbaar.
