Dodgers Roster: RHP Dylan Covey Signs Minor League Contract with LA

On Friday, the Dodgers signed up Dylan Covey to a minor league deal. J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group confirmed the news on Twitter:

This deal also includes a non-roster invite to spring training.

The 31-year-old was initially selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB draft.

Covey has some experience playing in the big leagues as a former White Sox Rule 5 pick in 2016. After being designated for assignment in 2020, Covey elected to become a free agent and was later picked up by the Boston Red Sox later that year.

With the Red Sox, the righty compiled a 7.07 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts over 14 innings and eight games.

Later that year, he was outrighted off the 40-man roster and released to Triple-A.

Since then, Covey has spent the last two years pitching for the Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Over his 198 1/3 innings played with the CPBL, he posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
