Dodgers Sent Video to MLB Showing Manny Machado Throwing Baseball at Dave Roberts
The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly sent a video to Major League Baseball that shows San Diego Padres infielder Manny Machado throwing a baseball at manager Dave Roberts in the L.A. dugout, per The Athletic. Here’s a video that somewhat shows the incident:
On Monday, Roberts claimed Machado threw a baseball with “intent behind it” that was directed towards him in the dugout. The ball hit the netting and went back into play towards home plate. Then, umpire Tripp Gibson went and spoke to Machado, seemingly about the throw.

In the moment, Roberts didn’t notice the incident. However, after watching the video, Roberts called it “unsettling” and “disrespectful.”
“It didn’t almost hit me because there was a net. And that was very bothersome. If it was intended at me, I would be very — it’s pretty disrespectful,” Roberts said. “I don’t know his intent. I don’t want to speak for him. But I did see the video. And the ball was directed at me with something behind it.”
Machado was asked about the throw on Monday, and had this to say to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune.
“I spoke about this last night after the game. I’ve already turned the page, and I’m just looking forward to playing in front of our fans tomorrow and preparing for another tough battle against a very good team.”
On Sunday night, Machado was asked about the incident and didn’t exactly deny it.
“Did Flaherty throw the ball hard at the other guy?” Machado told The Athletic, alluding to Dodgers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty hitting Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch the previous half-inning. “They can say whatever they want. I threw the ball like I always throw it into any dugout.”

Roberts felt differently, and the Dodgers have now taken matters into their own hands. What MLB does with the video remains to be seen.
“Clearly that team over there, they like the villain-type kind of role and they feed off of that,” Roberts said. “So whatever gets us going, the motivation is individually, collectively, to win a baseball game, to win a series.”

All I know is, the Dodgers players, pitchers and hitter better come with some intensity and purpose in game 3 and 4 or we are going home again. The Padres have the pitching and hitting to go to the World Series and they have the cocky bravado, that make you hate them. We can overcome them with experience and desire. Channel some inner 1988 Dodgers team or something. The Padres always choke in the World Series, but they have the talent to get there. The Dodgers also have the talent. Sometimes it seems they play with a lack of intensity though.
in some positive news-Dave Roberts managed his last game at Dodger Stadium… He will be fired very very soon.
It’s not Robert’s fault that LA can’t hit against Darvish. It’s not his fault all of our starting pitching is on IL. The Padres have starting pitching and we don’t. I hate them with a passion, but they have the better pitching.
In your dreams
Why was Machado throwing a ball in the direction of the Dodgers dugout anyway? The only way Machado and Padres will stop chirping is that Dodgers need to beat them in this series. That’s all… Just Beat Them!!
Manny is just a waste of space. He’s a terrible example for kids who are watching. Especially when he doesn’t run out a ball because “he’s manny fucking machado!” And Tatis has already been suspended for PED’s. Anyone who disrespects the game like these two should be permanently banned for life! Now, allow the all time hit king into the Hall of Fame.
Seriously, this is what Roberts wants to hang on to? Who cares, he tossed a ball that bounced and rolled into the dugout. How about not giving up 6 HRs in a game? How about finding a way for Mookie to get out of his 0 for his last several dozen at bats? How about Flaherty making pitches and NOT telling someone to “sit the eff down, MFer”? We were pathetic in game 2 and motivated and lit a fire under the Padres behinds. Not a smart move. Play the game and if you’re better than them, find a way to win the series. If not, be a man and a team and acknowledge you got outplayed. Roberts has now managed to a spectacular 4 – 11 record in their last 15 playoff games. But hey, fans will come here and say how amazing their regular season was again….when what matters AND ALWAYS HAS is how you play in October.
Yes, but then Profar made a big deal of someone throwing the ball on the field, both were rather minor incidents, but then again, no one should be throwing anything at each other that is not related to a game play
I think Profar was trying to give a ball to the fan, and the Fan and the fans around, made him throw it back. Then other fans started throwing stuff. Then fans were throwing at the Padre’s in their bullpen.
NO ONE should be throwing a ball into the dugout for any reason, even if it misses their intended mark. Nor should anyone be taunting another player/team. In football you get a penalty should be in baseball or any sport. Last night got out of hand because the umpires did not handle it right. Let’s play the game without all hostility and bull——.let’s see good defense and hitting
did you watch the game? or watch the video of Machado throwing the infield ball to the Dodger dugout? It was a soft toss and it bounced two or three times before hitting the dugout net. Dodgers and Dave in particular tried to make something out of nothing. I am all for Blue, but this episode is embarrassing.
Machado is a smart ass player- The Dodgers fans let him know it. THat seems to be why he is an X Dodger!
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that there may be a sense of frustration among my fellow Dodger fans (sarcasm). Me included. Once again, I agree with Mike H in all respects except the “October thing”. In October, there are so many factors that can determine the outcome of a game or short series that, in a sense, does not reflect the quality of a team. Only problem is that in October those factors are magnified. For example; Profar’s catch, an error, passed ball, or an injury (or injuries) can influence the outcome of a short series. I’m still optimistic that the “Boys in Blue” will come back tonight and force a game five in the baseball cathedral.
