Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Receives Extreme Praise In New MLB Player Survey
Sometimes the correct answer is the most boring of all the options. This was true within The Athletic’s annual MLB Player Poll, where Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani was a popular man.
He was voted as the best player in the game today by his peers, even if it was somewhat of a given. Ohtani even had players trying to pick against him to not make things predictable.
“Forty-six percent of our voting pool named the two-time MVP as their pick for the best player in the sport. Several more players even acknowledged that Ohtani was the real answer, but they elected to provide a different response for fear of being too predictable.”

On the year, Ohtani is hitting .310 with 15 home runs and 41 runs batted in. He has continued his incredible impact on the field during his first season in Los Angeles and it has resonated with players around the league.
“There’s no comparison. Everybody has a comp, he’s got no comp.”

While Ohtani isn’t pitching this season, he has had more time to focus at the plate. He has seen some hitting slumps, partly due to a hamstring issue that has been nagging him. But overall, he may be better than ever.
The comparisons to Babe Ruth have continued and they likely will forever, especially when he likely returns to the mound next season.
“Shohei Ruth or Babe Ohtani — no question.”

The respect he has built around the league is clear and speaks to the type of player he has become over the years. Ohtani remains the biggest show in the game, not just to the fans but to his colleagues, as well.
