The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros wouldn’t appear to be trade partners on the surface given the ‘colorful’ histories between both franchises.
The last notable deal between the two was clearly won by the Astros. The Dodgers acquired reliever Josh Fields for an unheralded outfielder named Yordan Alvarez. Since then, Alvarez has made three All-Star appearances and is one of the better slugging outfielders in the sport.
Fields pitched decently in parts of three seasons, though he was clearly nowhere near as impactful as Alvarez.

As we fast-forward a decade, the two entities could reengage on another deal — though this time with an outfielder heading to LA, and presumably pitching going to Houston.
It’s been reported that the Dodgers have an interest in Houston outfielder Jake Meyers. Though the 29-year-old isn’t exactly a household name, Meyers has the profile of a player that could hugely help the Dodgers in 2026.
The team could use an everyday centerfielder with range and athleticism. These are arguably the top-two traits Meyers brings to the table. He ranked in the 95th percentile in range, and in the 71st percentage in spring speed. These traits could immediately upgrade the centerfield situation for the Dodgers Hypothetically, a Meyers acquisition could push Andy Pages to right field and Teoscar Hernandez to left.
Additionally, Meyers is coming off a season in which he hit a career-high .292. His chase percentage, whiff percentage, and strikeout percent numbers are all above the 70th percentile. This indicates a player that is patient at the plate, and one that doesn’t strike out all that often.
Meyers is also under team control for two more seasons. It’s unknown as to what Houston may ask for in a trade. Pitching likely would be the main requirement, and someone like Gavin Stone could be asked for in return.
On paper, Meyers would make a whole lot of sense — though the strained histories between the teams could make a deal more difficult to accomplish.
