Dodgers Shuffle Bullpen, Reliever Returns from IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated reliever Brock Stewart from the injured list ahead of their series against the Minnesota Twins Monday.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers optioned right-hander Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stewart has only made two appearances for the Dodgers this season, as he has spent most of the season on the injured list. He began the year on the injured list while he recovered from the injury which sidelined him for most of last season, and went straight back to it with a bone spur in his left foot at the beginning of May.

Through his two appearances, though, Stewart has two scoreless innings and hasn’t allowed a hit. He has also struck out three batters in that time.

The Dodgers acquired Stewart at the 2025 trade deadline from the Twins for James Outman, though he only appeared in four games last season before requiring shoulder surgery. He had a 4.91 ERA through 3.2 innings pitched.

Stewart is a huge boost to the Dodgers’ bullpen, which is only getting thinner as the season progresses. Key relievers like Edwin Diaz and Ben Casparius are out, and Blake Treinen also landed on the injured list on Saturday. Having Stewart in the mix will certainly give the Dodgers some more quality among their relievers.

The right-hander will get the opportunity to face his former team on the road, as the Dodgers take the Twins on in a three-game series on the road.

How Did Chayce McDermott Pitch Since He Came Up?

McDermott returned to the Dodgers after reliever Blake Treinen went on the injured list Friday, and made just one appearance before heading back to Triple-A.

His sole appearance came in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Baltimore Orioles, during which he threw 1.1 innings. He allowed two runs, both of which came off of a home run from Blaze Alexander, and now has a 7.71 ERA on the season.

McDermott made one appearance this season prior to Sunday, coming against the Los Angeles Angels on May 17. He allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout in a scoreless effort.

Do you think Brock Stewart will remain healthy and finally make an impact with LA?
