While many Dodgers fans will be watching from home (if you’re willing to wake up), catching the game in person does not come cheap. Tickets for the Dodgers’ season opener against the Cubs cost as much as $11,000 on StubHub. On secondary markets, tickets are as high as $20,000.
The ticket prices for the exhibition games are cheaper, but certainly not affordable. On secondary ticket sites, the cost to attend an exhibition game are going for more than $4,000.
The series is a homecoming for a number of Dodgers stars, including Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki. All three players are poised to play a big role in the Dodgers’ season opener. Yamamoto will start Game 1 versus Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga. Sasaki will get the Game 2 nod.
Ohtani will be the team’s designated hitter, but many of his teammates believe the chaos surrounding the team’s trip to Japan will very much center around the reigning NL MVP.
“I think we all assume how much of a figure Shohei is,” pitcher Clayton Kershaw said, via The Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett. “People say he’s like The Beatles. People say he’s like Taylor Swift.”
Right-hander Tyler Glasnow also made a comparison to one of Hollywood’s best and brightest to explain the fan frenzy for Ohtani’s homecoming.
“Shohei Ohtani is like Justin Bieber times 10 over there,” Glasnow said. “So it’s probably going to be insane. There were a lot of people last year (in Seoul). There was a lot of people going through the hotel and every day kind of walking around. So I’m expecting it to probably be crazy.”
