Dodgers Walk-off Yankees on Freddie Freeman Grand Slam in World Series Game 1
The Los Angeles Dodgers just walked off the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series on a Freddie Freeman grand slam in one of the craziest games in MLB history.
With two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Yankees elected to walk Mookie Betts to face Freddie Freeman with the bases loaded and two outs. Freeman made the Yankees pay.
He hit a walk-off grand slam, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 World Series lead with one of the biggest hits in Dodgers franchise history.
Game 1 of the World Series was a pitchers duel between Jack Flaherty and Gerrit Cole. Flaherty went 5.1 innings while Cole pitched six innings. Flaherty made one mistake, giving up a two-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton. Cole gave up one run on a sacrifice fly by Will Smith.
The Dodgers bullpen kept the Yankees silent. Anthony Banda finished the sixth, while Brusdar Graterol pitched the seventh. Alex Vesia threw a scoreless eighth inning, and Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen combined for a scoreless ninth.
Kopech got the first two outs of the ninth, before allowing a big hit to Gleyber Torres. It looked like Torres’ hit was going over the wall, but a fan reached into play and caught it. After review, the umpires said it was fan interference and a double.
The Dodgers elected to intentionally walk Juan Soto to face Aaron Judge, and brought in Treinen. Judge then popped out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dodgers were retired in order, and World Series Game 1 went to extras.
In the top of the 10th inning, the Yankees scored a run off Treinen. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Freeman put the game away.
