Dodgers Will Have Familiar Voice Calling Playoff Games vs Padres

The voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers will be staying home for the playoffs.

According to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated, Davis and John Smoltz will be announcing the highly-anticipated Dodgers and San Diego Padres National League Division Series that begins Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Calling the other National League series will be Adam Amin on play-by-play duties with A.J. Pierzynski and Adam Wainwright providing color commentary.

Davis took on the massive responsibility in 2016 when the Dodgers named him the play-by-play broadcaster for road games, positioning him as the successor to the legendary Vin Scully.

Since then, Davis has made a name for himself while focused on building his own legacy while honoring the tradition set by his predecessor, the late Vin Scully.

Vin Scully’s remarkable 67-year run with the Dodgers started in Brooklyn back in 1950 and wrapped up in Los Angeles after the 2016 season. His tenure with one team is unmatched, setting a record for the longest a broadcaster has worked with a single sports franchise, as recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Much like Scully during his early days with the Dodgers, Davis has gradually taken on more national broadcast duties. Most notably, he serves as the lead play-by-play voice for Fox Sports, working alongside analyst Smoltz for major events like the All-Star Game and the World Series. Davis stepped into this prominent role in 2022, succeeding longtime broadcaster Joe Buck.

In addition to his work with the Dodgers, and much like Scully, Davis also calls NFL games for Fox Sports, along with college basketball and football. These national commitments keep him busy, reducing his Dodgers broadcast schedule to about 90 regular-season games each year.

Even with a packed schedule and numerous obligations, Davis doesn’t plan on going anywhere.

“The Dodgers, Fox, and my bosses there have been great to me,” Davis told Contes. “They all know each other. So I’ve been so lucky that they’ve worked nicely and allowed me to coordinate the schedule. As the Fox role increased a little bit I was able to pull back on the number of Dodger games. If I couldn’t do that then maybe it’s a different story.”
