Fans Get First Look at New Dodgers Closer Edwin Diaz

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not been too busy this offseason; however, they signed arguably the best name in the free agent market this winter: superstar closer Edwin Diaz.

Diaz signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2025, which broke his own average annual value (AAV) record for a reliever at $23 million. Now, the mission is clear: help the Dodgers capture their 10th title in franchise history and become the first team in a quarter-century to complete a three-peat.

The Dodgers have all the tools to do just that, and Diaz will be at the forefront of it. The 31-year-old is ready to showcase his skills on the biggest stage, so much so that he shared a video of himself getting some throwing work in while rocking a Dodgers hoodie.

Diaz is set to enter his first season in Dodger blue.

Los Angeles faced a pressing need to fix what nearly sank their postseason: the bullpen. Heading into the 2025 playoffs, it was by far the Dodgers’ biggest weakness — plagued by high ERAs, blown saves, and inconsistency from top to bottom, especially in high-leverage situations down the stretch and during the postseason.

Diaz is projected to help with that and then some. By the way he looks in the video, the Dodgers will be a vastly better bullpen this season with No. 3 on their side.

The 31-year-old and three-time All-Star enters Los Angeles with 253 career saves and a 2.82 career ERA. Last season, his last with the New York Mets, he recorded a 1.63 ERA, 98 strikeouts and a 0.87 WHIP in 66.1 innings.

Diaz is in Los Angeles for one reason, and he made that one reason clear in his introductory press conference back in December.

“You know, it wasn’t easy, it wasn’t easy. I spent seven years in New York. They treated me really good, they treated me great. And I chose the Dodgers because they are a winning organization. I’m looking to win and I think they have everything to win,” Diaz said.

Diaz’s addition in LA is set to do wonders for the team, and could be the reason the Dodgers win their third consecutive title.
