Former Dodgers Infielder Released by NL West Rival

Former Los Angeles Dodger infielder Kolten Wong has been released by National League West rival Arizona Diamondbacks.

The veteran second baseman was playing for the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate in Reno after signing a minor league deal with the club in early April. The 33-year-old entered the 2024 season as a free agent in hopes of bouncing back from his atrocious 2023 season with the Seattle Mariners and the Dodgers.

He started the 2024 campaign with the Baltimore Orioles and spent spring training with the squad. Ultimately, he opted out of his contract, and the team released him two days later.

In his time with the Diamondbacks organization, Wong played in 31 games and slashed .271/.339/.383 with a .722 OPS, two home runs, 16 RBIs, and 29 hits in 107 at-bats.

The former 2011 first-round draft pick signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers and was added to the 40-man roster on Sept. 1. In 20 games as a Dodger, Wong slashed .300/.353/.500 with a .853 OPS, two home runs, eight RBIs, four runs and nine hits in 30 at-bats.

Wong will now look for a new squad. An injury-depleted team like the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, or Los Angeles Angels could use his services. Wong is a career .256 hitter and a two-time Gold Glove award winner.
