Former Dodgers MVP Cody Bellinger Suffers Major Injury With Cubs
Former Dodgers MVP outfielder Cody Bellinger is heading to the injured list with a fractured rib. Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell made the announcement on the Parkins and Spiegel Show on 670 The Score.
In his place, top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong is joining the team.
Bellinger, 28, was just starting to get going this season after his late start to the year. He was in the middle of an eight-game hitting streak, but will now head to the injured list for what should be a long stay.
Bellinger ran into the outfield wall trying to rob a hit on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. Unfortunately, that will is brick, and Bellinger got the worse end of it. Click here for a video of the play.
Bellinger was slashing .226/.320/.440 this year with five home runs and 17 RBIs. He was coming off a 2023 season in which he won the National League Comeback Player of the Year award after slashing .307/.356/.525 with 26 home runs, 97 RBIs and an OPS of .881.
Unfortunately, Bellinger will now hit the IL, and should be there for an extended period of time.
Bellinger signed a three-year, $80 million deal with the Cubs at the end of February, with opts out after both years.

That man has a curse, sorry to hear the bad news Beli , I’m atleast happy you received a good size contract before you got sidelined again, He was great until Kiki hi fived your shoulder and took it years to get back, I hope this doesn’t set him back the same, good luck Cody wishing a speedy recovery and big things, not so much your team tho
I’ve lost count how many good outfielder hitters have had their careers go sideways due to ill-advised crashes into the wall in what they think is a heroic attempt to steal an extra base hit from a batter. Unless maybe it’s a game winning play that decides a World Series, it’s just a ridiculous risk to take. Case in point, Cody Bellinger. Even if he makes the play that injured him he’s now useless to his team for an extended period of time during which he could very possibly have been a significant contributor to the team’s offense (and defense for that matter). Just a brainless move sorry to say.
How does the author know Bellinger “was in the middle of an eight-game hitting streak” especially if he’s going on the IL? To predict he’ll have at least one hit in four consecutive games after rehabbing in the minors is amusing but not statistically likely to happen.
Hey Leonard, I can see how the wording/phrasing would be confusing BUT I believe the writer meant he was riding an 8 game hitting streak BEFORE the injury.
