Former Dodgers Pitcher Scott Erickson Being Linked in Murder Trial: Reports

A former Dodgers pitcher has found himself in a bit of trouble recently. Scott Erickson, who played for Los Angeles in 2005, has been named in the opening statements of a murder trial. The trial involves L.A. socialite Rebecca Grossman, who was charged with murder in the deaths of two young boys.

Grossman’s vehicle allegedly struck the two boys in a crosswalk while going more than 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. During the opening statements, the lawyer for Grossman, Tony Buzbee, pointed the finger at Erickson for the murder.

Erickson had been driving in front of Grossman after the two of them spent time drinking at a nearby restaurant. However, according to Buzbee, sheriff’s investigators never checked Erickson’s black Mercedes for damage, even though he drove through the crosswalk just a few seconds before Grossman did.

“Witnesses are expected to testify they heard Erickson’s high-powered black Mercedes SUV racing down the street and saw it strike both boys, who were hurled through the air after the collision.”

With this information, it could put Erickson into major legal trouble. Buzbee is out to prove that it was Erickson, not Grossman, who hit the children.

“We will prove that the black car was driven by Scott Erickson, who stopped down the road and hid in the bushes and watched,” Buzbee said. “Scott Erickson’s car hit those children. That’s what … the science in this case will show.”

However, one witness, Jake Sands, testified that while Erickson did approach the crosswalk first, he swerved to avoid hitting the family.

“The driver tapped his brakes, Sands testified. “It swerved and avoided the family right before,” he told the court in 2022.”

Erickson was only charged with misdemeanor reckless driving for this incident. His part of this case was resolved in 2022 after a judge ordered him to make a public service announcement about the importance of safe driving. He has since denied any wrongdoing in the matter.
