Former Dodgers Reliever Lands In NL Central

Former Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Elieser Hernández has signed a one-year contract with the National League Central leaders, the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers made the announcement via Twitter/X.

Hernández elected to become a free agent after he was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday after he cleared waivers. Hernández was removed from the Dodgers 40-man roster last week after he allowed nine earned runs across 9.2 innings.

The 29-year-old appeared in five games, started in one game, collected an 8.38 ERA, and recorded six strikeouts.

Hernández served primarily as a relief pitcher during his stint in Los Angeles; however, now with the Brewers, he could likely serve as a starter due to the amount of injuries they’ve suffered to their rotation. The Brewers optioned James Meeker to Triple-A and placed DL Hall in the 60-day IL to make room for Hernández.

Hernández started his career with the Miami Marlins in 2018 after being selected by them in the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He spent five seasons in South Beach from 2018-22. he spent the 2023 season with the New York Mets organization, spending all his time in the minor leagues.

Hernández joined the Dodgers in Jan. 2024 after signing a minor league deal with the club. He began the season in Triple-A and was called up to the majors in mid-May.

The Venezuela native has a career 5.15 ERA, a 10-22 win-loss record, and 283 strikeouts in 95 games and 297.1 innings.
