Former Dodgers Utility Man Signs With AL Contender
The Kansas City Royals signed free agent second baseman Cavan Biggio to a minor league contract on Sunday. Biggio, who will turn 30 in April, was assigned to the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.
Biggio jumped around to four different franchises throughout the 2024 season. He made stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Atlanta Braves. However, he only made MLB appearances with three teams.

Biggio began the season with the Blue Jays, where he made a season-high 44 appearances. He served in a variety of positions, including first base, second base, third base, right field, and designated hitter.
The Blue Jays designated Biggio for assignment in June to create space for infielder Spencer Horwitz on the 40-man roster. A few days later, Toronto traded Biggio to the Dodgers for right-handed pitcher Braydon Fisher.
Biggio played 30 MLB games with the Dodgers from June to August, where he slashed .192/.306/.329 and hit three home runs and 10 RBIs. He played the same positions as he did with the Blue Jays except for designated hitter, which was NL MVP Shohei Ohtani’s primary spot.
The Houston, Texas native was designated for assignment for the second time in 2024 when first baseman Freddie Freeman returned from a family emergency.

The Giants signed Biggio for two weeks before trading him to the Braves, where he would spend the rest of the 2024 season. Unlike other teams, the Braves only used Biggio as a second baseman.
Considering his position versatility throughout the last season, Biggio will add depth to the Royals’ organization in 2025.
