Freddie Freeman May Not Play in Dodgers vs Mets NLCS Game 6

Dave Roberts said he is considering sitting Freddie Freeman in Sunday’s Game 6 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and Mets.

Freeman sat out Game 4, and then went 0-for-5 in Friday’s Game 5 with two strikeouts.

Roberts said he’ll have a conversation with Freeman before determining his availability for Sunday night’s game.

“I’m going to have a conversation with him tomorrow. But I do think that his swing is not right. I’m certain it’s the ankle,” Roberts said. “We’ll have that conversation, but it’s certainly an option to not have him in there for Game 6.”

Freeman has been battling through an ankle sprain he suffered in late September. While doctors told him his injury would normally require a four-to-six week stint on the injured list, Freeman was back in less than 10 days for the NLDS.

Freeman has gutted it out through the NLDS and NLCS, missing a couple games while exiting others early. However, he’s clearly not the same player with the bad ankle, as he’s just 3-for-18 this series, and only has one hit in the last three games.

When Freeman has sat this postseason, Max Muncy has taken over at first base and Kiké Hernández has played third base. With Andy Pages’ emergence in Game 5 with two home runs, the Dodgers would likely feel good about that alignment, with Pages in center field.
