Freddie Freeman’s Status for Dodgers vs Padres NLDS Game 3 Officially Revealed

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman will play for Game 3 of the National League Division Series Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres.

Freeman was listed as day-to-day after their Game 2 loss. He exited Game 2 after experiencing discomfort in his sprained right ankle and was replaced at first base by Max Muncy and Kiké Hernández entered at third.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Monday that Freeman was “still sore” when the Dodgers were working out at Petco Park prior to Game 3.

“He’s getting treatment. Don’t know anything else. Outside of that I think he’s very grateful for a mental break today.

“The thought is he’s going to play tomorrow. If he can’t, then he won’t,” Roberts said. “But again, if he’s able to play and post, he’ll be in there.”

Through two games of the series, Freeman has two hits, zero home runs, zero RBIs, zero runs, and one stolen base with a .286 batting average, .286 OPB, and a .572 OPS in seven at-bats.

Freeman suffered what was initially diagnosed as an ankle sprain on Sept. 26, in the Dodgers’ fourth-to-last game of the regular season against the Padres. X-rays were negative, but Freeman revealed to reporters that the combination of the sprain and the bone bruise would normally sideline him for 4-to-6 weeks if this was the regular season.

“They told me this is a 4-6 week IL stint, and I’m going to try to do this in a week and play,” Freeman said last week. “I’m not going to be hindering, I don’t think. There’s certain plays, like the slowing down stuff. I can’t thank (team physical therapist) Bernard Li, our whole training staff, for getting me able to be able to do this.”

Freeman got eight days of rest and was fine enough to play in Game 1. However, his ankle was not kind to him in Game 2 which led to his exit. He exited Game 2 going 0-for-2 before he was replaced in the field heading into the top of the sixth.

The 35-year-old was due up to the plate again in the bottom of the sixth and L.A. was trailing only 3-1 after five innings, yet he was not feeling well enough to continue playing.
