Full Breakdown of Clayton Kershaw’s Contract With Dodgers, Which Could Reach $16 Million
The Los Angeles Dodgers officially signed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw to a one-year, $7.5 million deal. He was spotted at Camelback Ranch Tuesday, a confirmation Kershaw would be wearing Dodger blue for another season.

The details of Kershaw’s contract have now been revealed. MLB insider Robert Murray provided a breakdown: “The deal includes $1 million each for 13, 14, 15, 16 games started. It also includes $2.5 million for 30 days on active roster, $1 million for 60 days on active roster, and $1 million for 90 days on active roster.”
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the contract can reach up to $16 million in total value. There was no question whether the revered veteran southpaw would return to L.A, especially since he was rehabbing from two surgeries.
General manager Brandon Gomes said the Dodgers had remained in contact with Kershaw throughout the offseason.
“We’ve obviously stayed in touch with Kersh and I think our sentiments are out there and we know Kersh also wants to be a Dodger for life,” Gomes told MLB insider Jon Heyman. “So we’ll continue to be in contact with him.
Once Kershaw was spotted at Dodgers’ spring training, the foreseeable came to pass.
On Wednesday, Kershaw stood alongside president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman to observe newcomers Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki throw a bullpen at spring training. When Snell first signed with the Dodgers, he had asked Friedman to put his locker next to Kershaw’s.
“Putting a jersey on the first time, to me, that was amazing,” Snell said on MLB Network. “I’ve been waiting to do that for a while. So to throw a bullpen in uniform, you see Kershaw, that’s crazy to me. That’s like the coolest thing I think I’ve done in my career, is pitch in front of him. I can’t wait to see how the season goes.”
The arrival of Kershaw gives the Dodgers clubhouse another veteran presence, especially for other pitchers in the rotation. And once again, the Dodgers bring back another fan favorite.
