This week, Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter has sought to calm the fanbase after a sweep in the National League Championship Series brought LA’s three-peat hopes to an end.
Speaking with Jack Harris of the California Post, Walter explained his philosophy when building the organization and detailed how, despite a tough end to this season, the Dodgers are set to compete for championships for years to come.
What did Mark Walter say is the secret to the Dodgers’ success?
Harris called an alliterative saying by Walter “the Dodgers’ guiding light.”
“You’ve heard about the three strikes. But what about the 3 Ps?” Walter said. “Our people, our passion and our practice.”

It’s hard to argue with the Dodgers’ recent success, as they’ve won three World Series titles since 2020.
However, big changes are on the way.
Not only is Walter facing a federal probe that preceded him selling off other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers — he promises he’s keeping the Dodgers — but a looming lockout could end with a salary cap in baseball.
Much of the Dodgers’ recent success is often credited to their ability to sign high-end free agents and trade for superstars, but Walter said even with changes to the way teams must operate, the Dodgers are set up to succeed.
“I think on any playing field, we’ll still be among the elite teams,” he said. “I think our people and our passion and our practice really does matter.”
As evidence, he cites the Dodgers’ farm system, one of the best in the sport and a key, if often underrated, part of the team’s success.
For instance, it was top prospect Josue De Paula who provided a spark at the end of this season, and it was another prospect, Zyhir Hope, who allowed the Dodgers to trade for ace Tarik Skubal.
“It’s not just spending. Our farm system is pretty strong, and that and our player development are really big things for us.”
President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman agreed with that assessment when speaking with Harris.
“Just for us to have the farm system that we have, I think is something that gives all of us confidence in our ability to work together within whatever rules exist to be as good as we can possibly be,” he said.
Do you think Mark Walter’s 3 Ps will allow the Dodgers to continue to thrive?
