The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up third baseman Max Muncy’s club option for 2026 on Thursday following his strong showings in 2025.
The third baseman got hot right at the end of April, hitting his first home run of the season on the final day of the month, and carried his momentum through the next few months before landing on the injured list. Muncy hit five home runs in May while logging 26 RBIs, then finished June with seven home runs and 24 RBIs.
His hot streak ended there, though, as he suffered a bone bruise in his knee against the Chicago White Sox on July 2, keeping him out until August, then landed on the injured list for a second time later that month with an oblique strain.

The veteran infielder finished the season with 19 home runs, 67 RBIs and an .840 OPS, posting an OPS+ above league average for the seventh time in eight years with the Dodgers.
Muncy has been a key piece for the Dodgers since his arrival in 2018, and will remain in LA for at least another year.
“It means everything,” Muncy told Dodgers Nation “[A] Chance to get back in the World Series, win the World Series, it’s the whole reason you play this game. For me, the Dodgers have expressed it so many times, they mean everything to me. I wouldn’t still be in baseball if it wasn’t for the Dodgers. So to get another year with them — hopefully I can get a more in there — really means a lot to me.”

The Dodgers now have their starting third baseman for next season, and will likely direct their focus elsewhere in the team during free agency.
Muncy will look to find the hot form he found in the middle of 2025 to help guide the Dodgers to a third consecutive World Series title next season.
