Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy sent a strong message on his mindset following his key performance in Monday’s 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals.
The Dodgers celebrated Muncy’s bobblehead night on Monday, having his family throw out the first pitch and say “It’s time for Dodger baseball” prior to the start of the game. The veteran third baseman responded by coming through for the Dodgers—just as he has since his arrival in Los Angeles nearly a decade ago.
Facing a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Muncy stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and wound up on third after a three-run double down the right field line to give the Dodgers a 5-3 lead. The Royals managed to tie up the game the following inning, but another run in the bottom of the seventh did the trick to get the Dodgers back in the win column for just the second time this month.
LA has lost each of their three series in August, but Muncy says dwelling on their recent results won’t do the team any good.
“It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday, the last week, the last month,” Muncy said. “You show up every day with an opportunity to do something great. You’re 0-for-0 every single day. There’s an opportunity in front of you, and that’s what we have to focus on.”
Despite their recent skid, the Dodgers still lead the NL West by 7.5 games over the Arizona Diamondbacks and looked much better than they had over the past week or so in Monday’s win.
How Has Max Muncy Performed in 2026?
Muncy has been a key piece of the Dodgers’ success this season, posting solid numbers across the board and earning his first All-Star appearance since 2021.
He has a .248/.341/.485 slash line on the season, hitting 22 home runs and driving in 55 RBIs over the course of the season so far. Since making his Dodgers debut in 2018, Muncy has only finished one season batting below league average—and is on track to maintain a streak of six season above that threshold.
He has accrued 3.6 bWAR so far this season, which is his highest total since his All-Star season in 2021.
The Dodgers will hope Muncy can continue to produce as they eye a third consecutive World Series title this season.
