Minor League News: Quakes Get Into Brawl With Mavericks | VIDEO
This hot weather has not only caused balls to fly, it has also caused punches to fly! On Friday, Dodgers single A affiliate, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, faced off against the High Desert Mavericks, the Texas Rangers single A affiliate.
Things got heated in the top of the 6th inning when the first pitch from Quakes’ reliever, Luis De Paula, hit Mavericks’ second baseman, Travis Demeritte. Demeritte immediately begins walking towards the pitchers mound, and before you can blink, the benches are cleared and the Diamond is filled. It is a bit difficult to make out who is fighting and what is going on in the sea of players; however, Quakes catchers, one being starter Julian Leon, were clearly in the middle of the action getting some fairly powerful blows in.
After all was said and done, Quakes pitcher Luis De Paula and Mavericks third baseman Juremi Profar were the only ones ejected from the game. The Mavericks would go on to best the Quakes, beating them 10-4.
The Dodgers will start game two against the Pittsburgh Pirates today at 4:15PM PST with Kenta Maeda on the mound. Hopefully, they use the weather to produce runs as opposed to fights! Go Blue!
