MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred Defends Dodgers For Expensive Ticket Prices

The prices for sporting events throughout the United States certainly are higher than they’ve ever been collectively at any point in history.

The resale market hasn’t helped in that capacity, nor has the global pandemic and the financial impact following it. Universally, fans across the country reportedly are dismayed at the cost.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been at the center of that talk. Prices throughout the stadium have increased as have ticket prices. One may see this as a real issue moving forward.

The Dodgers are on the books for several gigantic contracts, and as such it’s not surprising to understand that the experience in attending a game is different compared to even last year.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred doesn’t see an issue with rising prices. In fact, he praised the Dodgers for what they’ve done in an article with the Los Angeles Times courtesy of Bill Shaikin.

“You can’t have it all ways, right?” Manfred said. “The Dodgers have made a massive financial commitment in terms of players, and they have to run a business that supports that massive financial commitment.”

According to the article, all baseball teams combined last year to sell 71 million tickets. It marked the highest total in seven years. Additionally, attendance at ballparks has gone up every year steadily since the pandemic.

Manfred suggested that those living in Los Angeles could always go and check out Angels games. The Angels famously offer very family-friendly packages which include at times tickets, drinks, and a hot dog.

While that idea might be good in theory, Manfred clearly isn’t taking into account that the Angels are located in Orange County, and that diehard Dodgers fans likely won’t switch decades of allegiance over less expensive tickets.
