MLB Insider Calls Out Dodgers for Disrespectful Comments About Yankees After World Series Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers are receiving backlash for what players have said about the New York Yankees after their Game 5 debacle. On Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney, the ESPN reporter shared his thoughts on Joe Kelly and Chris Taylor taking shots at the Yankees.

“I know this: If the Yankees had won, Aaron Judge wouldn’t have crapped on the Dodgers,” Olney said. “Giancarlo Stanton wouldn’t have. Anthony Volpe? No chance.”

It’s evident Olney isn’t fond of what some Dodgers players chose to say after the team beat the Yankees in the Fall Classic. Olney specifically referenced what Taylor said on Mookie Betts’ podcast in a recent episode, when he stated, “We’re all kind of thinking it — (the Yankees) kind of (crapped) down their leg.”

“I think Taylor’s had a great career, the way he’s adjusted at the plate, he’s adapted to different positions,” Olney continued. “He’s one of the best in the world at what he does. But he and the small handful of other Dodgers who are chirping know better than anyone how hard their sport is to play, and they’re better than this. Why not bask in the glory of an incredible World Series win from the high ground?”

The Dodgers, with the help of poor defense from New York, orchestrated a historic comeback after facing a 0-5 deficit. It was the sort of jaw-dropping game that seems too crazy to be true, and yet it was the very inning that transpired for the Dodgers to take home their eighth World Series title.

The Dodgers scored five times in their fifth-inning rally. The Yankees managed to score another run in the sixth, but the Dodgers answered again with two eighth-inning runs. Yankee Stadium went from a roaring crowd to defeated New York fans in a matter of minutes.

Players have expressed the odd energy during Game 5 of the World Series, and have also said the obvious: The Yankees played shockingly poor defense.

It may seem harsh to hear that sentence, but it is certainly true. The Dodgers wouldn’t have won that game without New York’s subpar defense.

At the end of the day, though, we will never know what Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or Anthony Volpe would’ve said about the Dodgers after the World Series because the Yankees lost. Olney just wants to see the Dodgers taking more of the high road.

  1. Big deal. A couple of ancillary players make comments. Maybe Olney should comment on things Padres players said about the Dodgers, as just one example. And maybe the Dodgers are sick of the comments made against them by the biased media clowns. Anyway, Kelly is an idiot, talks a lot, and he won’t be on the team next year. Taylor wouldn’t be if he wasn’t on an overpaid contract for one more year. He stinks now, so he shouldn’t be saying anything.

    1. Joe Kelly is definitely an alpha-competitor, but should shut his mouth. CT3 should be embarrassed by his own play, not out there denigrating other major leaguers.

    2. I would expect it from Guano Joe Kelly as he is a total butt wad. I thought Taylor had more class than that. Two players who contributed nothing in the playoffs and virtually nothing in the regular season should not be running their mouths. So happy Kelly is gone and Taylor should be.

    3. Agree totally Leonard ! So tired of the media never giving the Dodgers their due. Biased playoff and World Series commentators always saying the Dodgers aren’t good enough. Trophy is in our house now !!!!

  2. I agree, it’s poor sportsmanship. Better to just say “the Yankees had a really bad day, and we were able to are advantage of it” and leave it at that. Also: never a great idea to kick your opponents when they’re down and give them added impetus to beat you in the following years….

  3. There is no reason to denigrate big league competition. Olney has a point and Dodger players should know better.

  4. One player did not make the roster and the other was a non factor.
You gonna be upset if the team mascot said the Yankees crapped the bed to?
No instrumental players said anything so get over it. The Yankees did shit the bed.

  5. I bet Verdugo and Chisholm would have. Mookie, Freddie and Shohei have kept it classy. I think its just sour grapes.

  6. Hey Olney,

You are comparing apples to oranges. Instead of asking what Judge would say if the Yankees had won, how about picking more comparable players? Like Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham, for example. What would they say? Probably a lot worse.

  7. Seems like mostly Yankee fans here. Why is it that the Dodgers always have to take the “high road”- which most of the time they do? There was plenty of bad mouth comments on both sides. With lots of hype by the east coast-centric broadcast announcers before, I think the Dodgers were fed up so they had a bit of a chip on their shoulders. That probably helped them to their victory.

  8. That Game 5 5th inning was unarguably a complete defensive meltdown (which the Dodgers properly took advantage of), so the “ancillary” players are only saying what many of us are thinking…but this is an example of,’ some thoughts are better left unsaid.’ No matter how, the Dodgers beat the Yankees and are the 2024 World Series Champions!

  9. Not sure what Joe Kelly’s comments were or when the occurred, but Taylor’s, I believe was said on Mookie’s podcast directly after the parade / festivities. Most were at least a little inebriated at the time. Buehler was pretty hammered.

  10. I’m also a long time Dodgers fan, and I believe when you win don’t say much and even less when you lose.

    1. right Griz. you let your game do the talking. seem to be a lot of very immature folks spouting off here. Probably the kind of people who throw stuff on the field when they are unhappy. Go Blue.

  11. Man The Dodgers have had to sit back and take all the trash talking about them and the Short season win, why should they have to be quite? People like to talk crap when it’s only good for them but the boys do it and everyone’s panties in New York is up In a bunch. The Yankees should who the Yankees were. Deal with it.

  12. Wait a minute, the story byline said MLB insider. But it quoted Buster Olney. He’s not an insider, he’s not part of the inner circle of any team I’ve heard of, he’s just some guy with an interest in baseball and or other sports who gets paid to talk about it. A clubhouse guy is much more of an insider than Buster Olney. The guy picking up the wet towels and dirty uniforms is an insider, not some guy who just gets paid to talk about it.

  13. I’m amazed that we, as fans, give so much credibility to both Olney and the player comments! Are we that bored this winter?

  14. Another variation that fits – “When you lose, talk little. When you win, talk less.” Most of the team has followed this.

  15. This is as good as a time as any, but my beef is with the MLB channel talking heads who said to a man that the Dodgers were not going to beat the Pads. NOT ONE! Greg Amsinger on that channel has been a shill for the Padres for several years. Saying constantly that the Pads are the new kings of the West and that the Dodger’s pitching staff could not measure up. They all said the Dodgers did not have enough pitching to beat the vaunted Yankees. Not one of them has ever said they were wrong. Well who won the Series? Sure has H wasn’t the Pads or the Yankees. There has been an East Coast bias on their network and the others networks for years. Didn’t hear anyone of them say anything about the idiot/clown in San Deigo named Profar’s comments. DODGERS HAVE A RIGHT TO CHRIP.
