The Los Angeles Dodgers are chasing a historic third straight World Series title, and several of them told Dodgers Nation’s Noel Sanchez that they’ll need the fans’ support this October.
It’s a lesson they’ve learned well over many playoff runs in recent years, with the Dodgers qualifying for the postseason without fail for well over a decade now, with the current streak starting with the 2013 season.
Dodgers stars speak directly to fans
Over the past month or so, Noel has asked Dodgers what they’d say to the fans, and the most common message was one of thanks.
“Enjoy the ride because it’s going to be a special one,” infielder Miguel Rojas said. “They deserve it, they’ve been so supportive to us and we’re trying to give back to them.”
“Thanks for supporting us, come out and be loud and we’re all looking forward to it,” added pitcher Tyler Glasnow.
“It’s going to be a ton of fun and we’re really counting on you guys to support us through another long run in October,” said utility player Tommy Edman.
Other Dodgers echoed Glasnow’s request for fans to pump up the volume and bring the energy.
“I know they’re going to show up. Bring the energy and support us like they have all year,” manager Dave Roberts said. “It’s going to be an exciting postseason so just ride with us.”
Pitcher Tarik Skubal, who was acquired at the trade deadline, hasn’t had the playoff experience of his teammates, and he said he wants to see what Dodger Stadium is like in the playoffs.
“I’m excited to play home playoff games in front of these people,” he said. “The fans are incredible and I’m excited to see what they’re capable of in the postseason.”
Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the reigning World Series MVP, said the fans’ support makes a real difference in how the players perform, himself included.
“I get a lot of luck and support from the fans through the season,” he said. “We’re getting into October so I’d like to live up to highest expectation.”
Fan favorite utility player Kiké Hernández had a message that was short and sweet, and also surely reassuring to Dodgers fans who are worried about the team’s odds.
“We’re ready,” he said.
Fans are ready, too. Fortunately, the wait is almost over.
