Walker Buehler Sends Message to Dodgers Fans on Christmas After Signing With Red Sox

Walker Buehler may not pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers next season, but he’ll always be a legend in L.A.

Buehler, who agreed to a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Boston Red Sox this week, will pitch on a non-Dodgers team for the first time in his professional career next season. Buehler was selected by the Dodgers in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He debuted with the team in 2017, and made two All-Star teams and won two World Series trophies along his journey.

This past year, Buehler played hero in the World Series against the New York Yankees. Buehler pitched five shutout innings in Game 3 of the World Series. Two days later, he pitched the final three outs in Game 5 to clinch the World Series for L.A.

While Buehler won’t be pitching in Los Angeles in 2025, his legend will still live on in the Dodgers organization forever. The fact that Buehler was the hero less than two months ago, though, means his No. 21 jersey was a great present for the holidays — especially since he remained a free agent just a few days ago.

While fans on social media were posting pictures of their Buehler jerseys as gift, the 30-year-old right-hander took notice. He decided to send a nice message to Dodger fans who may be unhappy that their gift is the jersey of a player not on the team anymore.

“The #21 Dodgers unis you guys got today are still cool!” Buehler wrote on his X account. “I’m gonna wear a different one next year but I appreciate y’all rockin em nonetheless!”

Buehler’s deal is not yet finalized with Boston, so he’s likely waiting to post his official goodbye to Los Angeles. But on Wednesday, as fans were posting pictures of their presents, he decided to make sure everyone knew their jerseys would still be great to wear no matter what teams he plays for next season.

  1. The pitching core for next year is fully loaded but the dodgers should have at least remain loyal to a guy that was so good in the postseason and the world series ?

    1. I’m so happy he’s coming to the RedSox, I am sure the Yankee fans are going to be happy to see him again.

    2. Actually the Dodgers did him a favor by not picking up his player option or whatever it was. This actually gave him a chance to sign a multi year deal. Why he didn’t take advantage of it I don’t know.

    3. Agree. Kershaw is absolutely done, declined his player option, but LAD will bring HIM back and not Buehler? Makes no sense. Don’t get me wrong, I love and appreciate what Kershaw has meant to this team and organization, but he has no spot in the rotation and at best is middle relief. Buehler said he would have signed a QO, and our shortsighted management thinks that isn’t appropriate. Really disappointed to see him go.

  2. Do any of us have a clue? I don’t.
They’re doing what they do and we’ll probably never know the whole real story.

  3. I would have liked to see how Buehler does next year. Yeah it’s unknown how he will do in the long run after two TJ surgeries however he did show significant improvement at the end of the season. And as we all saw he was great in the series!
I think the Red Sox might have gotten a real gem.
I do think there should be some loyalty shown to certain players. Buehler is one of them. And of course Teoscar and Kike should be resigned!
