From becoming a back-to-back World Series champion to purchasing the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter has had a busy this year.

The record-setting $10 billion sale of the Lakers was finalized last month and Walter has already had a hand in restructuring the organization’s front office. On Thursday, the Lakers fired executives Joey and Jesse Buss from their front office roles. Moreover, a majority of the scouting department was also dismissed as a new era of Lakers basketball begins.

When Walter’s purchase of the Lakers was initially announced in the summer, there was speculation on how much the storied franchise would intertwine with the Dodgers.

And now, it’s clear there will be quite the crossover of the two teams owned by Walter.

On Friday, it was announced president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman would be playing a role with the Lakers. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne revealed the details on Friedman’s new position with the Lakers.

“Friedman, the president of baseball operations with the Dodgers, has played a lesser role. He mostly consults with Lakers president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, sources said,” Shelburne writes. “Friedman has helped the Dodgers win three of the past six World Series.

“Both the Lakers and Dodgers are expected to become part of TWG Sports, the entity Walter created to oversee all his sports holdings. As such, Zaidi and Friedman are acting as senior executives of TWG Sports, which is helping with the Lakers after the sale of the team closed last month.”

Walter’s purchase of the Lakers signaled a new era for the purple and gold as the franchise modernizes and chases an 18th NBA championship. It’s clear change is imminent for the Lakers, and with Walter at the helm, the organization will be set up for another title run.

The Dodgers and Lakers could be bringing championships to LA for the foreseeable future.

    1. Friedman’s role with the Lakers is a minor one. I don’t think it will distract him from his 9-5 haha.
