Why the Dodgers Are the Perfect Fit for Garrett Crochet at the Trade Deadline

As the Los Angeles Dodgers get set for the All-Star break, the team has to be feeling down about the way they have played of late. Los Angeles blew two games in the 9th inning to the Detroit Tigers this weekend, dropping them to 56-41 on the year.

The Dodgers have had to withstand multiple injuries to some key players, mainly along the pitching staff. Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dustin May, Clayton Kershaw, and others, all remain out due to different injuries.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, Los Angeles is expected to be one of the more active teams in baseball. MLB insider Buster Olney spoke with Dodger Nation’s Doug McKain to go over some of the deadline targets that Los Angeles will have. One of which is left-hander pitcher Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox.

“We know that Andrew Friedman, every year at the trade deadline, makes big strikes. I think that they would be the team most likely to do that.”

Landing Crochet would be a massive boost to the Dodgers’ overall pitching staff. He has put together a special season so far for the White Sox, posting an ERA of 3.02 over 107.1 innings of work.

Crochet has also struck out 150 batters during that time, holding the lead around baseball. Los Angeles could use another left-hander in the pitching staff and Olney believes he would be well worth what it could cost to land him.

“If you’re the Dodgers, and you have all that money, all the resources they have, they are a team that can take more risks than other teams. And, I’m betting on the upside.”

The Dodgers already have attempted to land Crochet before but were unsuccessful in doing so. Chicago wants a lot to move him and Los Angeles likely makes another attempt to bring the left-hander to town before the deadline expires.
