Wild Discrepancy in Average Price Difference For Dodgers, Padres Home Playoff Games

Fans wanting tickets to Games 3 and 4 of the National League Division Series will face hurdles in acquiring a seat in Petco Park. There is a significant price difference between NLDS games at Dodger Stadium compared to Petco Park. Padres home game tickets cost nearly double the price of Los Angeles’ home games.

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times shared the overwhelming difference in prices via X. The average price for Game 1 tickets at Dodger Stadium is $167. In contrast, the prices for games at Petco Park reach as high as $319.

There are a few reasons for the price difference. One reason could be that Dodger Stadium is much larger than Petco Park. The Los Angeles Stadium can seat up to 56,000 spectators. Meanwhile, the San Diego Stadium has a smaller 42,445-person capacity, making the demand for tickets slightly higher at Petco Park.

Another explanation for the price difference is the stakes of Games 3 and 4. The NLDS champion could be determined as early as Game 3 if one team sweeps the first three games. Therefore, fans at Games 3 and 4 may get to witness their team advance to the National League Championship Series, which is worth a higher price than the first two games.

In addition to the expensive ticket price at Petco Park, the Padres have limited sales to specific counties only. Residents of the Los Angeles area, which is home to most Dodgers fans, are excluded from ticket sales.

The following message appeared for fans trying to buy tickets to Games 3 and 4:

“Petco Park is located in San Diego. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of San Diego County, southern Orange County, western Arizona, Las Vegas and the surrounding area, and all of Baja California. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside San Diego County, southern Orange County, western Arizona, Las Vegas and the surrounding area, and all of Baja California will be canceled without notice and refunds given.”

Based on the history of the Dodgers fanbase, it is likely that these obstacles will not stop the Los Angeles fans from supporting the team.
