Will Dave Roberts Be Dodgers Manager As Long As He Wants? LA President Answers
Managers typically come and go pretty often in MLB. But Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is heading into his 10th season with the organization in 2025, and the Dodgers plan to keep him around for awhile.
The Dodgers agreed to a lucrative four-year contract extension with Roberts on Tuesday, making him the highest-paid MLB manager in history.
Although Roberts’ career with the Dodgers will continue through 2029, the question is if the franchise will ever look to part ways with the skipper.
“Who knows about that? Given the state of sports, the state of managers,” said Dodgers president Stan Kasten on Dodgers Dougout Live with Doug McKain. “But we’re really happy to have Dave.”

Roberts has led the Dodgers to two World Series titles, four National League pennants, and eight NL West titles across his tenure. He has also finished in the top 7 of NL Manager of the Year voting every season since winning the honor in 2016.
His success with Los Angeles suggests a bright future for Roberts. This is another factor in Kasten’s uncertainty surrounding Roberts’ future with the Dodgers.
“He’s also very young,” Kasten told McKain. “Do we think he wants to do this until he’s 70 or 80? I don’t know.”
Although Roberts has received criticism for his coaching decisions throughout his career, many people can agree he has significantly contributed to the Dodgers’ success.
Kasten acknowledged Roberts accomplishments and explained that his success is why fans assume he will remain with the Dodgers a long time.
“He’s already been here nine years even. That’s a long run for a manager,” Kasten said to McKain. “We respect and appreciate all that he’s done, and that’s why the internet is saying that he’s going to be around for quite a bit longer.”

Regardless of his future with the organization, Roberts has a more important task ahead. He is equipped with a superstar roster capable of winning back-to-back World Series titles and adding another feather in Roberts’ cap.
