Dodgers Make Trade, Acquire Reliever From Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a trade, acquiring right-handed pitcher Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets for cash considerations.

Ramírez has appeared in 10 games this season, splitting time both with the Mets and Baltimore Orioles. He was traded from the Mets to Baltimore on April 11, but posted an ERA of 6.00 over five games. Baltimore designated him for assignment, after which he was claimed off waivers by New York.

The Mets designated Ramirez for assignment after he struggled in five games, posting an ERA of 7.56.

For the year, he has put up a combined ERA of 6.91 over 14.1 innings of work. He has struck out 17 batters and has put up a WHIP of 1.40.

The Dodgers’ bullpen has been hurting for right-handed relief pitching since the injuries to Ryan Brasier and Evan Phillips. Although both should be returning soon, the Dodgers have aggressively rotated through several relievers — J.P. Feyereisen, Ricky Vanasco, Nabil Crismatt, Gus Varland, and Eduardo Salazar — for low-leverage, short-situation work.

  1. They are shooting for the all-time record for the number of relievers to appear for a team in one-year. The two who pitched last week, Eliezer Hernandez and Salazar, and Banda yesterday. all over-performed. There seems to be some sort of Dodger magic with relievers, at least in the beginning. This calls for an investigation of their methods. What does Mark Pryor know that no one else knows? Will they vote for playoff shares for 60 players?
