Brewers Star Calls Dodgers’ 2025 NLCS Sweep ‘Lucky’ After Getting Revenge

The Los Angeles Dodgers can’t shake the Milwaukee Brewers, who keep bringing up the team they just swept.

The Dodgers-Brewers rivalry

The Brewers, to their credit, handled the Dodgers in a 4-0 sweep. The Dodgers were pegged as the bogeyman in baseball, but Milwaukee’s timely hitting and elite pitching overwhelmed an older Dodgers squad.

Just a year ago, the Dodgers swept the Brewers 4-0 in the NLCS, riding their momentum to a second straight World Series title.

Milwaukee got past a team that has stood in its way for years in the NLCS, heading to its first World Series in over 40 years.

Given how often the Dodgers and Brewers have met and been compared, there has been a lot of talk between the two franchises.

Now that the Brewers got the leg up and hold the bragging rights, some interesting quotes are coming out.

First, Pat Murphy, the manager, touted how the Brewers took down a team full of Hall of Famers.

And now, catcher William Contreras has called the Dodgers’ 2025 sweep “lucky.”

Why Contreras thinks the Dodgers were lucky

Contreras wrote an essay for The Players’ Tribune aimed at Brewers fans, explaining why the Dodgers were lucky to sweep them in 2025.

“Here’s the truth: The Dodgers were the lucky team last season,” Contreras wrote in his story for The Players’ Tribune.

“No, I’m not saying they were lucky to be champions. Of course not. It’s a tremendous team, with tremendous players. I’ll take nothing away from them.

“But were they lucky to SWEEP us? That’s a different story. Between their team and our team, 4–0, that wasn’t the gap.”

The reality is that sweeps aren’t always about outclassing or dominating another team. There can be close contests, but the Dodgers’ pitching shut down the Brewers’ offense, while LA put up more of a fight in their sweep.

It is hard to call the dismantling of the Brewers’ entire lineup by Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow luck.
