Dave Roberts Announces Emmet Sheehan Will Start Season On Injured List
The injury troubles in the starting rotation are already starting for the Dodgers as manager Dave Roberts announced that Emmet Sheehan will begin the year on the injured list. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic was the first to announce the news.
In what was originally thought to be general body soreness, Sheehan’s injury looks to be more serious. He hasn’t played in any Cactus League games yet, and this is a blow to the Dodgers rotation.
Sheehan was expected to compete for one of the final spots in the rotation this year, but that will now be put on hold. The second-year right-hander’s injury opens the door for others, such as Gavin Stone to take advantage of the opportunity.
Last year, Sheehan emerged from the minor leagues to provide the Dodgers with a real spark in their pitching staff. The right-hander appeared in 13 games last season, posting an ERA of 4.92 over 60.1 innings of work.
He quickly showed that he belonged in the big leagues, even making the postseason roster.
Luckily for the Dodgers, they do have a ton of depth to counter this injury. However, the front office was excited to see what he could do in a follow-up season, so hopefully this stay on the injured list won’t be for too long.
