Dave Roberts Reveals He Will Join Dodgers for White House Visit With President Donald Trump
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Tuesday they are accepting President Donald Trump’s invitation to visit The White House on April 7 and celebrate their 2024 World Series victory.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters shortly after the announcement was made, and was asked if he would be attending. He said yes.
“It’s certainly a huge honor to get the invitation to the White House. It allows us to celebrate our 2024 championship. To my understanding, every World Series champion gets that honor,” Roberts said. “I respect the position. It’s the highest office in our country certainly, in the world. So I’m looking forward to it.”
Back in 2019, Roberts hinted to The LA Times that he likely would not attend the White House under President Trump if the team won the World Series that year.
“We have to win it first,” Roberts said back then. “But one trip to D.C., playing the Nationals, is plenty for me.”
The Dodgers, of course, didn’t win the 2019 World Series, but did end up winning in 2020. By the time they visited The White House in July 2021 to celebrate the victory, President Joe Biden was in office. The Dodgers were the first professional sports team to visit The White House during Biden’s administration.
This time around, the Dodgers will be visiting The White House under President Trump. On April 8, members of the team will also visit Capitol Hill.
“In keeping with long-standing baseball tradition, President Trump has invited the 2024 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House when they play in Washington D.C. on April 7. The Dodgers look forward to visiting the White House and celebrating our title. In addition, members of the Dodgers will visit Capitol Hill on April 8.”
