Dave Roberts Reveals Message He Gave to Dodgers Heading Into Title Defense Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping to become the first MLB team in a quarter-century to win consecutive World Series titles.

The current roster is a mix of demonstrated veterans who were a part of last year’s title run, new talent looking to write another chapter of baseball history, and young phenoms not yet born the last time MLB had a back-to-back winner.

At the helm of this mega-talented baseball team is manager Dave Roberts. With four National League pennants and two rings during his Dodgers tenure, he, too, carries mighty expectations after recently becoming the highest-paid manager in the league.

Roberts spoke about what wisdom he imparted on his team with all the pressure in the world and 29 other teams that want to see them fail.

“Be the hunter instead of the hunted,” Roberts said his message to the team was. “I think when you’re the Dodgers, there’s always a target. You can’t run from it.”

“There’s an understanding with what we’ve done, who we are, that people are going to come at us with their best each night,” Roberts added. “I think us being hunted or having a bull’s-eye, when you put on this uniform, that’s just the way it is.”

The Dodgers have started to see a villainous narrative grow around them this offseaon in the midst of the aggressive moves made to bolster their championship-tested lineup.

Bringing in Cy Young award winners, feared closers, international phenoms, and tons of deferred money in contracts are just a few reasons the baseball world has been using to try and diminish the offseason dominance by baseball’s defending champions. The mentality that Roberts is speaking about is something that will surely help this team from the dreaded complacency bug that seems to always bite teams at the top of MLB.

Roberts will hope that his call to flip the narrative will carry his team far through October once again as the Dodgers look to have another historic campaign.
