Dodgers 28-Man Roster: Reassessing LA’s Bench For Opening Day
As this shortened spring training winds down, the Dodgers are facing a serious roster crunch position player wise. In this case, that’s a good thing.
After having a mostly weak bench in 2021, Andrew Friedman has gone off in trying to add some quality veteran options to compete for roster spots this season. Now with less than a week left of exhibition games, Dave Roberts and the front office have some tough decisions ahead of them.
Edwin Rios has been on a mission after getting his shoulder surgically repaired. But Jake Lamb has been challenging him along the way. Gavin Lux offers the most potential defensive versatility, but might likely be playing himself off the roster with a struggle bus of a spring. Plus Hanser Alberto has looked electric on defense in the infield.
Oppo boppo off a lefty too. Really impressive stuff from Babe Ríos. #Dodgers

Kevin Pillar feels like every bit of a Dodger-style veteran from time to time too.
Our Dodgers Nation staff had some thoughts on the bench earlier in the week, but even those thoughts have changed.
The DN staff makes their predictions for who will be on the #Dodgers bench for Opening Day.
Thoughts?

Because Rios has options, Lamb may get the nod while Edwin polishes his defensive skills at AAA
It depends on Dodger deciding on 15 or 16 pitchers to begin season. With 16 pitchers that only leaves 12 position players in total. Barnes plus 3 others. Most likely Alberto and Lux for sure, then Rios or Lamb. But after May 1st the rosters go back to 26 and I believe a max of 13 pitchers will be in place.
That makes sense but Rios has been a monster.
when will Bauer pitch. I bet after All Star break
The, emotional, struggles of being a ballplayer. These players are reasons why MLB needs to expand. There are, many, AAA players that are capable of playing MLB.
