Dodgers Call Off Tyler Glasnow’s Scheduled Simulated Game: Reports

Tyler Glasnow was scheduled to throw a simulated game against live batters Friday in Atlanta, Georgia, hours before the Dodgers’ game against the Braves at Truist Park.

As Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reported, the sim game was called off before it began.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters in Atlanta that Glasnow felt discomfort in the same area of his right arm that sent him to the injured list — an obvious setback.

Glasnow was placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow tendonitis on Aug. 16. At the time, it seemed like merely a precaution. More recently, manager Dave Roberts revealed time is running out for Glasnow to even pitch in the postseason.

On Aug. 30, Roberts told reporters that the team was “hopeful” Glasnow would make a return before the end of the season. But that hope was predicated on steady progress in the month of September. Friday’s simulated game was supposed to be Glasnow’s first action against live hitters since the injury.

The 30-year-old had a 3.49 ERA and a 9-6 record before going on the injured list. Glasnow has recorded a career-high 168 strikeouts in 134 innings in his first year with the Dodgers. Last December, Glasnow was traded from Tampa Bay to Los Angeles and agreed to a five-year contract extension.

The regular season ends Sunday, Sept. 29, with the National League Division Series looming — assuming the Dodgers are the first or second seed in the league — later that week. To say time is running out on Glasnow to make progress would be accurate.
