Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw Addresses the Possibility of Starting the All-Star Game

The great debate about the All-Star Game starer rages on this week. And while Dodgers fans think they have it in the bag, experts around the league aren’t so sure about that. There are just so many good names out there, and hosting the Mid-Summer Classic doesn’t necessarily give you the edge. But it might be different for Brian Snitker this year.

Obviously, the most storybook version of this year’s All-Star Game has Clayton Kershaw taking the ball to start the game. The Dodgers hurler has been selected to 8 different All-Star teams in his career, and he has yet to start one. Getting his first taste at Dodger Stadium would be the Hollywood story that we’re all hoping for.

But Clayton isn’t new here. He seems to completely understand where he is at this season, and that there are guys around the league having special years. The Dodgers hurler spoke with am570’s Dave Vassegh this week, and he said that he does understand if it doesn’t work out for him to start the All-Star Game.

“I think it would be pretty special. Dodger stadium means a lot to me, and obviously, I’ve been here a long time. Getting to do that here would be pretty. And like you said before, I think I’ve had some chances in the past but for whatever reason, it didn’t work out, so if I was able to do it that would be awesome. But once again, I don’t want to take anything away I know there are some guys having some great seasons. So I completely understand if it doesn’t work out”

Guys like Sandy Alcantara, Corbin Burnes, and the Dodgers’ Tony Gonsolin are more than deserving of the start. And an argument can be made for all 3 guys in some way. But it does really seem like for the most part, people want to see Kersh get that start.

We’ll see what Snitker goes with because he has some tough decisions to make. Luckily for him, baseball seems to have a way of working itself out quite often. Maybe a start doesn’t line up or a guy doesn’t even want to pitch in the game. Things happen.
