Dodgers: Dave Roberts Chooses Words Carefully When Talking Craig Kimbrel’s Future

In a game that was supposed to be the franchise setting win for the Dodgers, the Padres took advantage of miscues and kept the Dodgers on their toes all game long. When the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the 10th inning, Dave Roberts sent Craig Kimbrel to the mound to try and save the game.

Kimbrel has been circulating in Dodgers media all season long for his blown saves, and not so pretty saves, but Kimbrel saw this as an opportunity to silence any doubters. Kimbrel hoped to propel his chances for a postseason role, but unfortunately walked the final two batters of the inning and achieved another blown save.

The Dodgers have to wait one more game to achieve their franchise record and the Kimbrel loss still raises question marks of what Roberts will do moving forward (quotes via Bill Plunkett, The OC Register).

“Every day is a test. He’s gotta go out there. I’ll keep giving him opportunities when it makes sense and we’ll make decisions as we get down the line.”
The only shining light for Kimbrel is the Dodgers secured a chance for a deep postseason run and much of the Dodgers pitchers are still recovering from injuries. This sets up Kimbrel to get more opportunities moving forward but it remains to be seen how well he will maximize his moments.

For now, it isn’t looking too hot for Kimbrel and many Dodgers fans still shake when they see Kimbrel take the mound.

  1. That’s part of the problem, DR makes nice on Crumble. Meanwhile, Lasorda would say,
“He’s benched and DONE for the season. He can join Bellinger who has been down at the minors all season.” Get rid of the cancer, DR, you would be surprised on the results.
