Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Gives Update On Status of Evan Phillips

The Dodgers bullpen has looked excellent of late without their best piece – Evan Phillips. Phillips was placed on the 15-day IL on May 5 after suffering a mild hamstring strain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on the team’s closer,

Closer Evan Phillips, who was placed on the 15-day injured list because of a right-hamstring strain on May 5, threw a full-effort 20-pitch bullpen workout on Saturday, and though the right-hander said he is “pain-free” and feeling “great,” Roberts said he is at least a week away from a return.

Overall, this is great news for the defacto closer. With how the team has been playing, they will wait until Phillips is 100 percent before reactivating him.

Perhaps the most underrated closer in baseball, Phillips continued to dazzle early in 2024. In 13.2 innings, he had allowed one earned run, struck out 17 batters, and collected eight saves. Unfortunately, the day the Dodgers got Blake Treinen back they lost Phillips to injury.

Despite early season struggles, and using a myriad of pitchers, the Dodgers bullpen has figured things out as of late. On the year, they rank third in baseball in innings pitched (181.1) and ERA (3.03).
