Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Shares Plan For Freddie Freeman’s Absence
Freddie Freeman was scratched from the Los Angeles Dodgers starting lineup on Friday so he could travel to Los Angeles to be with his family.
In his absence, Cavan Biggio started at first base. During his pregame availability Saturday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Kiké Hernández could get time at first too.
According to an Instagram post on Thursday from Freeman’s wife, Chelsea, their 3-year-old son, Maximus, has been in the hospital this week. Freeman was spotted sprinting out of the clubhouse on Tuesday after the game and on Wednesday, the couple spent the night in the hospital before being discharged around 3:30 a.m.
Maximus could not sit, stand, or walk for three days and he wouldn’t eat, Chelsea wrote on Instagram.
Freeman had started every game this season before “something spurred” Freeman to “where he feels like he’s gotta go home.”
“When your child is going through things it’s just hard to be present, and rightfully so,” Roberts added. “He certainly had a heavy heart the last few days, and I just pray that Max is going to recover well and have a full recovery.”
The Dodgers also called up Hunter Feduccia on Saturday in Freeman’s absence.
