Dodgers Expressed Interest in All-Star Closer Mason Miller Before He Went on IL: Report

In an act of frustration, Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller slammed his hand on a training table breaking the pinky finger on his non-pitching hand after Monday’s night against the Houston Astros.

The 25-year-old was put on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Tuesday.

Miller, who is the hardest-throwing pitcher in the major leagues, has been the subject of trade speculation with the A’s out of playoff contention. Before the injury, the Los Angeles Dodgers were reportedly among the teams to express interest in the Oakland Athletics’ star closer, according to major-league sources who spoke with FanSided’s Robert Murray.

Miller’s non-throwing hand is in a cast. He can throw while in a cast and will do a bullpen session on Tuesday.

The price for Miller was described by one source as “egregious” but that is the expectation for a guy who throws an average fastball of nearly 101 mph. Now, with the injury, Miller will probably stay in Oakland and it almost guarantees that he will not be traded before the Tuesday deadline.

The 25-year-old right-hander has made 34 appearances this season and is 1-1 with 15 saves and a 2.21 ERA. He leads all relievers with 70 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.

  1. You ever get the feeling the Dodgers just make up injuries to evaluate their players early in the season? They’ve been doing this for a couple years now. Then when most of their farm players hit 200, and their value drops before trade time, they are stuck acquiring any Notable players. So they get a relief pitcher that is in the top 99 players at his position in the league with a 4.79 era. A often injured utility player that the Cardinals don’t want. They wait till the last second for all the sought after players are gobbled up, then pretend they have the roster they need to win it all. I do appreciate the org signing Big name players but they aren’t on the field that doesn’t matter. Ohtani came here because they promised to build him that WS winner, when 2030?
