Dodgers Fans React to Craig Kimbrel’s Latest Loss
The 2022 season has not gone the way the Dodgers and closer/former closer Craig Kimbrel envisioned. There’s your understatement of the day. Following last night’s walk-off by the Padres, the veteran now has lost 7 games in 13 decisions. He’s also racked up 5 blown saves and a 4.07 ERA over 59 outings.
Last weekend, Dave Roberts removed Kimbrel from the closer’s role but still had hopes that the right-hander could take down meaningful innings for the Dodgers for the rest of the regular season and into the postseason.
Now Kimbrel is fighting to even make the roster.
Fans took to Twitter to react to the embattled hurler’s latest struggle. Surprisingly, the thoughts we’re fairly level-headed (i.e. not rooted in vitriol).
If everyone scheduled to come back is able to, then, no.

Nope, feel like he pitched his way off of it tonight.

Dodger fans definitely don’t want anything to do with him – BUT he’ll be on the roster and Roberts will continue to throw him out there. Which is why, I believe, this postseason will be painful after such a successful regular season.

He is a decent guy. Willing to explain his noncompetitive-ness. He threw Machado well. But didn’t convert after that. He has had an entire season to figure out how not to overthrow and overthink. To win, we can’t be worrying about his non competitive-ness.

As Sallie said, to his credit, Kimbrel took ownership. After the game he mentioned his frustration with himself and his non-competitive pitches — or misses, rather. He and Dave Roberts described the misses as pulled and yanked. Less than ideal with eight games remaining for him to earn a role for October.

I'm still confused why we let Kenley walk and then thought this guy was a good backup. He hasn't been dominant since about '17. Kenley had a great last 4 months of the season last year. Kimbrel hasn't had that stretch since that '17 season.

His walk rate has been the issue this year.

Rather lose without him, then with him tbh

My final thoughts
Kimbrel is doing everything he can to not make the postseason roster. Respect.

It’s hard to watch or listen to Dodger games when you know that DR may pull the rug out from under you by bringing in Kimbrel to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.
DR is the best manager the other club has when it comes to running Kimbrel out there to lose another game. So, when, or will, DR be able to kick his Kimbrel addiction?
The key to Crumble making the playoff roster, is Treinon. If Treinon is on it, Crumble is off. It’s that simple.
Roberts lied to us about the closer by committee. I still feel like Kimbrel can figure his stuff out.
On a positive note, I look good when Kimbrel comes in. I tell my girlfriend “I predict he is going to allow at least one walk and at least one hit and at least one run to blow the game”. I’m usually right, of course, and she says “Wow, you really know your baseball!” I feel so proud of my special foresight.

When you have full bases, full count, throw it down the middle, why was Barnes target on the bottom of the zone? And lay off that knuckle curve. Always gets him into trouble.
When Kimbral came in, I thought, “Shxx, another unnecessary loss”. Question: Why didn’t the Bazooka come in instead???
Kimbrel = No rings
I remember Tommy telling the guys are you playing for to win or are you playing to lose
