Back in 2019, former Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo, who walked up to the plate to Vicente’s “Volver, Volver” talked about why he chose the song.
That is something I like to listen to. My father growing up every time I am in the car with him, anytime I am cleaning the house, he would be playing Vicente and all these other artists. It is just something I grew up listening to. Being Mexican, we like to dance and we get emotional so when they listen, they love to hear it. It’s my favorite part just to walk up and hear the support and hear everybody screaming and crying.
Vicente’s music will live on well beyond this day and Chicanos all around Los Angeles are thankful for his gift to us and to the world. Rest in peace, Chente! Gracias por todo.
