Dodgers Free Agent Infielder To Sign With AL East Squad

Dodgers free agent infielder Amed Rosario has agreed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal is for $1.5 million.

Rosario, 28, spent the second half of the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers after he was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline for Noah Syndergaard.

In 48 games with L.A., Rosario slashed .256/.301/.408 with three home runs and 18 runs batted in.

He was a solid role player for the Dodgers, but ended up being left off the postseason roster. Then, with the outfield additions of Manuel Margot and Teoscar Hernández, and with Mookie Betts moving to second base full-time, there was no room for Rosario in Los Angeles.

Rosario will get an opportunity in Tampa, and should play all over the diamond. He’s a career .272 hitter across seven big league seasons with the Guardians, Dodgers and New York Mets.

With Rosario off the board, the last major Dodgers free agent from 2023 is Kiké Hernández. The Dodgers’ position player roster is full, so barring an injury or trade, he’s unlikely to return to Los Angeles.

The Angels are among the teams who have been linked to Hernández this offseason.
