Dodgers Free Agent Julio Urias Suspended by MLB For Violating Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse Policy

Former Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías has been suspended until after the All-Star break for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy, commissioner Rob Manfred announced Friday.

“The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urías violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urías violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.”

Urias will be reinstated following the conclusion of the All-Star break.

Urias, 28, last pitched for the Dodgers in 2023. The left-handed pitcher was suspended for the first time in 2019 for 20 games for domestic battery.

Then, in September 2023, he was placed on administrative leave in response to his arrest in a domestic violence case. The second incident occurred outside an LAFC soccer game. He hasn’t pitched at any level since then.

Across eight seasons with the Dodgers form 2016-23, Urias went 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA. He got the final out of the 2020 World Series and finished third in Cy Young award voting in 2022.
